ROLE OF HDCT
The role of Hart’s Daffodil Charitable Trust is to:
Preserve, protect and promote the historic site ‘Hart’s Black Horse Brewery, Weatherstons’ and the daffodil fields contained therein with the purpose of opening the site to the public and resurrecting it as a unique world class attraction.
1. Develop and maintain the site
2. Create informative resources to provide educational opportunities for visitors of the site.
3. Establish, develop and maintain links with community groups by creating a sustainable community asset.
4. Oversee financial controls; provide governance and financial supports for the Trust
5. Research, record, collate and share community history and knowledge for educational purposes.
6. Creating and delivering connections for community groups to participate in educational opportunities. (Seniors, school groups, disabled)
7. Work in partnership with tertiary institutions to develop educational programmes.
8. Annual Daffodil Dayze event - proceeds from sales of daffodil blooms go to a nominated charity or local group's fundraising efforts.
Hart’s Daffodil Charitable Trust was formed in August 2008 and was registered with the Charities Commission in the same year (CC35924).
While the land remains in the ownership of the Hart family, a memorandum of understanding exists between the Landowner and the Trust. Both parties agree to work together in providing public access to the site in order to achieve the purpose set out in the Trust deed.
FUNDING STRATEGY
The Trust will develop and sustain the site via community development initiatives.
Based on the success of re-opening the daffodils to the public, we continue with this tradition and see this community event grow each year. It has no conflicting events; indeed the Alexandra blossom festival compliments the daffodils as the traffic is already passing. It will also enhance visitor numbers to Lawrence, therefore benefitting the whole community.
An entry fee to the site applies of $5.00 per Adult; $2.00 Children; Under 5 free. Group discounts and concessions apply, with increased accessibility throughout the site for disabled visitors. At this time the site is only open daily during the spring season and by appointment at other times. However it is planned to extend this as amenities on site are developed, with an aim to become self sustainable.
In addition to applying for grants for specific projects we intend to seek sponsorship-type support and via
• donations
• selling bricks with commemorative brass plates
• tour concessions
• events and festivals
• raffles
• working bees
• Community work teams
LONG TERM GOAL
• Sustainability of the Trust
• Continued development of the Site
• Maximise potential of the Site for the benefit of the local community
